mariolupo 0 Posted October 23, 2007 Thank you for coming from Italy, from beautiful Roma, always nice to see you! I took the picture with an ancient camera , developed the grainy neg myself also printed the picture as it was b/w. Too lazy to find the neg in my files, my light box is broke so I scanned the small picture with the Epson perfection. :-) I was thinking to ad some colour as you can see but I changed my mind , too much trouble, so I stayed with the original intention and left it as it was. Best regards. Ciao! Mario Link to comment
lex_photo 0 Posted October 23, 2007 This is a great picture! I love the B&W, but the sepia version is great as well. - Lex Link to comment
mariolupo 0 Posted October 23, 2007 Lex, I am glad you enjoyed it. I was contemplating adding some tones, as now all is digits and limit regarding colours and pictures is your imagination but sometimes less and real does convey better the message intended. Thank you for the visit, all the best regards. Mario Link to comment
glaucodattini 0 Posted October 23, 2007 ...thank you for the technical explanations. Don't outwear too much, the original works very well! :-) Ciao. Glauco Link to comment
photodonn 0 Posted October 23, 2007 Both this one and the original crop work well for me. This is one fine portrait! Nice work Mario! Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 24, 2007 What a lovely portrait. My immediate response to seeing the thumbnail was to imagine Dorothea Lange. Of course these people do not appear to be in as a dire a straits as most of Lange's subjects, it still has the straight forward no pretense simple appearance. Very good amigo. Link to comment
dianadeaver 0 Posted October 24, 2007 There is so much depth, power and expression in this image. It reminds me a lot of how I grew up. I see the proud father and the curious daughter. I see the protection he provides and the safety she feels. She wears little gold earings.... This is just so simple, so human and charming! Link to comment
mariolupo 0 Posted October 25, 2007 I find your visit inspiring and I really appreciated all your your kind comments. All the best wishes for each one of you. Mario Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 27, 2007 I saw this a couple days ago, but got distracted and forgot to comment. Foolish me. This is exceptional. It reminds me of the Depression-era photography here in the states. It has the somber feel of accepting one's life and finding joy in it. A beautiful statement. Link to comment
mariolupo 0 Posted October 27, 2007 thank you for your visit Jeff, no need for excuse , I have the some troubles, sometime too many pictures to jump from sometimes too little time . I admire your clear ability to leave meaningful and heart felt comments for all the people you encounter and firstly I admire your work. This is from a communist country but people universally have passion to live and love and nurture family. In that respect I send best greeting for all your loved ones. Aaa.. I also hope you fixed those squeaking doors. :-) All my respect. Mario Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted November 1, 2007 A superb portrait Mario...I enjoy the light, tone and subtle DoF...not to mention the nice expression and shining eyes...beautiful BW portrait ! Link to comment
mariolupo 0 Posted November 3, 2007 Thank you for the visit a kind comments, much appreciated. The camera was old, temperamental Russian, this is just a scan from a small print I made some time ago, with an ancient enlarger. I do just a bit of portraiture these days, so I can buy more new wiz bang equipment, forever chasing more computer power, new machines and mega pixels and keeping with the Jones. Somehow in a nostalgic way I miss the simple old manual machines and making pictures just for fun. Best regards, Mario. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 50,754 Posted November 4, 2007 What a great picture. Reminds me a little of Di Niro Link to comment
mariolupo 0 Posted November 4, 2007 Thank you, you are close and maybe right , we all are simply actors in the comedy of life. Best regards Link to comment
valsavo 0 Posted November 5, 2007 This reminds me of an antique picture taken by a fond admirer. The little girl's eyes are beautiful and her hand over her heart is touching. The father's face is very loving. A beautiful composition; well done, I love it! You have captured the angelic quality of humanity. Valerie Savoie Link to comment
