kirk d 0 Posted October 15, 2007 I know this isn't the common presentation of the cute ladybug we find on little girl's dresses but I thought it was so cool to actually catch an aphid being sucked dry by a ladybug. Also, you can see the aphids sucking the juice out of my plant! Kind of appropriate for Halloween? Kirk Link to comment
tpe 0 Posted October 16, 2007 Great capture there, it really shows nicely the demise of the poor bug. I am not sure if it is the jpging but you may want to upload these with less compression on, as the compression artifacts dont help the sharpness much, and it is a shame to see them on such a wonderfull capture. Love your portfolio btw, the colors are breathtaking tim Link to comment
kirk d 0 Posted October 17, 2007 Tim, I'm glad you like my capture. I'm not sure if the noise/artifacts is from compression or my shakey manual focus in mediocre lighting. I think I had the f/stop up a little to get better DOF but I guess I missed on that point. I browsed through your pics briefly last night and was impressed. I'll get back when I have more time to comment. Thanks, Kirk Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 18, 2007 Thank you for sending me an invitation to this little horror show. This reminds me of those mid-50s/60's Japanese movies with gargantuan creatures emerging from radiation. My daughter, who just wandered by, was equally horrified, asking why that nice ladybug is eating "the little bug." No worries. Nothing she hasn't seen on the nature channel or on Desperate Housewives. Joking. I'm joking. She doesn't watch the nature channel. I needed a good gross-out. This also conjures up images of Enron and other modern-era corporate and governmental "big picture" endeavors. Link to comment
dianadeaver 0 Posted October 18, 2007 Hahah...Jeff is so funny. Kirk...this is very unique. I have enver seen anything like it before. I have never seen ladybugs in this position either. I like the focus and detail. I would increase the saturation just a little bit but it could just be my screen. Link to comment

paula grenside 0 Posted October 19, 2007 as Jegg says, this is really a little horror show: the sucking phase is captured in a very convincing way. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 24, 2007 Great subject, content, composition. Very unusual and compelling image. Saturations seems fine to me. Any more will put it into the more typical oversaturated category. The green is particularly nice. Would like a little more sharpness and focus on the bug's head where the action is, but otherwise there is great depth here and really good action captured. Link to comment
