Matt Laur 2,201 Posted September 25, 2007 Difficult early-morning light under clouds, and some very fast-moving subjects. I don't know if the image artifacts and softish focus take away too much from the moment, but for those who've pursued the wiley blueback pheasant, the circumstances of this shot may outweigh the technicalities. Thanks for looking, and for thoughts. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted September 25, 2007 Great capture... but maybe the title should have been "Duck!" :-) Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted September 25, 2007 Michael: Happily, the very careful and experienced gunner in question got a good look at me (wearing plenty of blaze orange), and knew to pull his shot until that bird swung well past the danger zone. This was at an AKC pointing dog hunt test, and safety is the religion. It was an unusual angle though - I was lucky (but you make your own luck, too - eye protection is a must!). Link to comment

wentbackward 0 Posted June 1, 2008 Wow ... for pictures that tell a story ... what happened next ... this has it. You're eyes are straight in there, focused and the brain just kicks in because any second a shotgun could be pointing your way. There just no time to dwell on this image or take in any technical aspects about photography. It hits you and grabs you, you're eyes can't move from reflection of the end of the gun barrel and there's rush as your body prepares to peel away should it swing around. Do you shoot guns too? ... it must be hard to switch as with the camera you'll be pulling the trigger in exactly the places where you would not with a gun!! In this case, lucky for the guy, that you had a camera in your hand!! Link to comment
bob_bill 291 Posted January 30, 2011 Matt,Since you posted this, it appears the hunter didnt get target fixation and fire in your direction a split second later. Great shot. I can hear that thump, thump. Link to comment
