thadley 15 Posted September 15, 2007 presented as seen - first time I have seen the skies having this distinct separation between blue and yellow. Took a few of this scene but this is the only one to have a bird in it. Link to comment

alexmeyer 0 Posted September 21, 2007 In my opinion, this shows that luck favors the prepared. Clearly, this type of scene doesn't happen along very often. You captured it with technical excellence. What it boils down to for me is: do I like it? I like the colors and dynamic range. For some reason, and ironically, the asymmetry of it strikes me as "unnatural". I think that's what's so interesting about this shot. It challenges the assumptions of "natural beauty". Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted September 21, 2007 Many thanks for your kind comments and ratings. I try to have a camera with me most of the time. Best regards, Link to comment
bertr 0 Posted September 24, 2007 ..it was there and you captured it brilliantly. Well done...Bert (P.S. do you think it might have been possible to overexpose by maybe half a stop or so to see a little more detail of the land portion) Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted September 24, 2007 Thank you for your generous comment and rating. They are both appreciated. Pointing your camera - especially digital ones - into the sun poses many challenges in terms of dynamic range. Blown highlights are a real risk and sometimes compromises have to be made. Even in this image there are some blown highlights and I had to decide what was important. In this case, I decided that what i wanted to preserve and highlight is the orange and blue separation in the sky. Over exposing would have increased the already blown highlight in the image. There are potential solutions: HDR and split density filters but they were not used in this case. Thanks again and best regards, Link to comment
