Garrapata Surf

patrick_d_smith

A large storm was clearing out right at sunset on this beach south of Monterey and Carmel. That stirred up some large waves and good cloud formations. I waited for over a year for these conditions with a medium tide and finally it all came together. Low tide cuts off the waves and high tide does not show the interesting cobblestones on the beach. Details: 1/5 second exposure @F16 with ND grad 0.9

Thanks for your comments. Tom, I like this place too. I'll check out your work in a week or two when I get a little free time. From the quick browse I had, it looks great.

Very well done. Well timed and the efforts show. I will have to come up from Bakersfield and check this area out when I have some time. The foreground stones are pulling my eyes inward. I can see another composition, one of just the stones and the surf. Perhaps you have considered such. I am sure you have provided the best choice of framing, though, considering the awesome light display on this particular evening. All the best to you Patrick!!

Patrick, I know exactly where this spot is (as a matter of fact I have a shot from this spot in my gallery). I think this was my favourite spot along the way to Big Sur. I was very upset I couldn't be there when the light was right. But I've got to say you did this place justice! This shot is magnificent in every aspect. Congrats!
