mark_hanegraaff 0 Posted August 11, 2007 Devil's tower is a great subject to photograph and this picture is no exception. The only problem I have is that I find both trees to be distracting because part of each of them overlap with the main subject. Since you used a 17mm lens, I think this picture could have been taken much closer to the base than it currently is, thus eliminating some of the distracting foreground elements. If you had wanted to keep the trees in the frame I would only suggest not having them upstage the tower. The other versions you have out there are way better. I like those a lot. Link to comment
dave.englund 0 Posted August 11, 2007 Thanks much Carlos:-) Mark, I appreciate your comments. I have very mixed feelings about this shot myself. There were a couple of shots I got from pull-offs on the road down from the Tower. Getting a better vantage point would have required climbing up a bit of a hill, as a result there was a significant part of that hill that I had to crop out of this shot. I do like the burnt tree, and it would be nice to find a way to include it where it doesn't over-power or compete with the Tower. Next time to the Tower I will be doing more hiking;-) Link to comment
stp 6 Posted August 11, 2007 Mark said it well. The burned tree might make a very interesting accessory to the tower, but it's going to require a different location and perspective so that the tower remains the main subject. This is a place that I hope to visit someday. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted August 11, 2007 This is a good composition, Dave. I like the two trees framing the tower. Great colors too. Nice shot! 6/6 anonymously. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
exposedtolight 0 Posted August 13, 2007 HI Dave, Great shot you have here. The sky is just as anyone would have prayed for and the composure with the trees is very nice. You did very well with this one my friend. Kudos. Link to comment
