paul.pilipshen 0 Posted August 7, 2007 Beautiful Picture. I greatly appreciate the detail in your equipment list. Especially filters and post processing techniques. That helps us all. Thank You Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted August 7, 2007 A beautiful scene. I haven't seen it with this foreground before. The filtering however is at least a stop too heavy. Where you have still water & the reflection should not be lighter than the mountain. Although some people relax this rule a little, there is a very big difference here. It has also resulted in the hill on the left developing blocked up shadows. Ultimately, an enjoyable but flawed beauty... Link to comment
krisphotography 0 Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment. Kah, Would you like this version better? Link to comment

ronald_capasso 0 Posted August 8, 2007 I agree with Kah Kit Yoong your second version is much more natural looking... still a great image, however. Keep it straight and don't shoot less than f8, Ron Link to comment
deschaumes 0 Posted August 8, 2007 Very very nice work , I love the overwhelming blue and the foreground well detailed . the sky is great but it seems slightly too dark for me . congratulation Link to comment
younes 0 Posted August 8, 2007 The second version is definitely better exposed and more pleasing! Well done! Link to comment
wedeko 0 Posted August 8, 2007 Nice colorful shot of this beautiful place! I like the colors of the mountain and water very much. I prefer to see a little bit more details in the left mountain, but that's a matter of taste I guess ;) Link to comment
marcloiselle 0 Posted August 8, 2007 This is a nice landscape shot. There is something with the sky that bother me a bit...i think that a 2 stop filter would have done a better job.But still very nice.......thanks! Link to comment
smeitner300 0 Posted August 8, 2007 Another vote for the 2nd version. Well done there! Link to comment
krisphotography 0 Posted August 9, 2007 to all those that took the time to rate and comment. Looks like my 2nd version is piggy backing on the original and appeals to a lot more people. May be I'll submit that for ratings/critiques separately. Your comments and ratings are really helpful. Give me some time and I'll visit each one of your portfolios and write something constructive. Thanks, again. Link to comment
images_in_light_north_west 0 Posted August 9, 2007 I agree the 2nd shot is a better balance, still this is a great shot, you should get a very nice print out of this. Ross Link to comment
ccd853 0 Posted August 9, 2007 Hi Anush. Your second shot is worlds better absolutely. Almost night and day! Nice job! I like all the logs, it makes the view different than usual. Link to comment
regis 0 Posted August 9, 2007 Hello Anush Moraine lake is the place on my "wish list" where I would love to go someday :)The colour of the water is simply unbelieveable. Your composition is very well balanced and I like it a lot. When it comes to post-processing I wouldn't use any grad filters here - as they seem to me not quite appropriate for this kind of landscape "layout". You see that the horizon line is not regular at all and when using the grad here you have to sacrifice some details within on the left side. What's more - you also introduce a bit of a uneven lighting between lower and upper part of your image. In my opinion it would be better to do some gentle exposure blending so that you won't loose all those details on the left mountain slope. Contrasts within the scene are not very high so there shouldn't be a problem with that. Your 2nd version is much better, but I would still try to minimise the filtering effect. Regards, Piotr. krisphotography 0 Posted August 9, 2007 Thanks again for the comments guys. I agree the horizon is not well defined here and using a grad filter itself becomes tricky. But the contrast was a little too much, so you either need 2-3 exposures or compose the shot differently to avoid high contrast areas. I have quite a few other shots of this place - I think some of you have seen this one: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=6279808 where I've tried a different composition. The RAW images have all the details even on the left mountain - I'll try the exposure blending and see how that turns out. I'll also try and post the rest of them. Needless to say, the place is just so attractive! Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted August 10, 2007 Anush, your second version or I guess the un-edited version is truly beautiful and natural looking at the same time. The above rendition obscures the relationship between the foreground and background. As far as grads go, I feel the least amount necessary is the best. Why take 30 aspirin when 2 will do the trick. I am as relieved as everyone else that you have the second rendition. This is a truly exceptional location and needs little help to produce a winner. I hope this is helpful, Whydangle Link to comment
raiftulga 0 Posted August 10, 2007 very nice photo, good cp and nd filter effects, excellent tecniques.... Link to comment
jay_patel 0 Posted September 4, 2007 Very nice colors and interesting foreground. I would have like to see some more details in the shadow areas on the hills (Extreme left and extreme right). I have not tried my hand at large format photography. My kind of photographic work requires lots of hiking (and sometimes backpacking) to get on location and large format cameras dont lend themselves to that. Link to comment
