A beautiful scene. I haven't seen it with this foreground before. The filtering however is at least a stop too heavy. Where you have still water & the reflection should not be lighter than the mountain. Although some people relax this rule a little, there is a very big difference here. It has also resulted in the hill on the left developing blocked up shadows. Ultimately, an enjoyable but flawed beauty...

Yes, the first is a great shot, beatifull color and composition, is a image with many quality, I like more the second versi�n, the two picturas are excelent. Sorry for my english.

This is a nice landscape shot.There is something with the sky that bother me a bit...i think that a 2 stop filter would have done a better job.

Moraine lake is the place on my "wish list" where I would love to go someday :)

The colour of the water is simply unbelieveable. Your composition is very well balanced and I like it a lot.

 

When it comes to post-processing I wouldn't use any grad filters here - as they seem to me not quite appropriate for this kind of landscape "layout". You see that the horizon line is not regular at all and when using the grad here you have to sacrifice some details within on the left side. What's more - you also introduce a bit of a uneven lighting between lower and upper part of your image.

 

In my opinion it would be better to do some gentle exposure blending so that you won't loose all those details on the left mountain slope. Contrasts within the scene are not very high so there shouldn't be a problem with that.

 

Your 2nd version is much better, but I would still try to minimise the filtering effect.

Thanks again for the comments guys. I agree the horizon is not well defined here and using a grad filter itself becomes tricky. But the contrast was a little too much, so you either need 2-3 exposures or compose the shot differently to avoid high contrast areas. I have quite a few other shots of this place - I think some of you have seen this one:

where I've tried a different composition. The RAW images have all the details even on the left mountain - I'll try the exposure blending and see how that turns out. I'll also try and post the rest of them. Needless to say, the place is just so attractive!

Anush, your second version or I guess the un-edited version is truly beautiful and natural looking at the same time. The above rendition obscures the relationship between the foreground and background. As far as grads go, I feel the least amount necessary is the best. Why take 30 aspirin when 2 will do the trick. I am as relieved as everyone else that you have the second rendition. This is a truly exceptional location and needs little help to produce a winner. I hope this is helpful,

Very nice colors and interesting foreground. I would have like to see some more details in the shadow areas on the hills (Extreme left and extreme right).

I have not tried my hand at large format photography. My kind of photographic work requires lots of hiking (and sometimes backpacking) to get on location and large format cameras dont lend themselves to that.
