Wonderful shot, Ger. Colors harmonize well. Very nice light and pose/expression.

7/7 anon.

An extremely successful lighting and posture work done here. Colour balance of this image speaks with minimalism and the clearness of thought. Referring to the title, it seems like you've put a dual sense in it:

on one hand, light is pouring onto her from the open door (frankly)

on the other side - is it a symbol of hope? Her face is so hopeful and clear, so that there is literally nothing to be removed in this picture - what we suggest to do usually. A tricky game of colours has captivated me, as I see the variance in the floor tint, red-biased hue of her shaded right hand and overall-amazing shadows.

while writing this comment, I've changed my mind on 7/7. It is just perfect.

P.S. Does it have to do anything with Evanescence's latest album 'the Open Door'? Otherwise it'd be nice know.

Regards, Alibek

Wow Ger!

This is really very good!

I love the light and the shadow, I love the different colours and how they all work together... Love to pose, love the expression... I really can't see anything about this photo that I don't just love.

Really, Honestly... Great Work!

Thanks to everyone for your comments on this image.

Alibek, sorry but its just an image that uses the open door for the light...Sorry.

Everyone who commented on the colours, wish I could say this was me as well but I had nothing to do with it.

Ha she kind of just sat like that, I did tell her to look towards the light and I did choose the shooting angle....

At least I'm honest with you..

Just take a look at how other photographers handle colors that are often given to them and you'll see why you deserve compliments. You may not have chosen them, but you chose how to (more importantly, how not to) present them. They are just at the right level of saturation to be natural and painterly. Many others would have oversaturated them, thinking the red might make some sort of statement if they hit us over the head with it. You kept it simple and it works quite well, especially as it relates to the soft blue background. I think it's a nice portrait. I'm not sure I'm quite getting how the pose, the gaze, and the lighting all work together. It feels to some degree casual and to a degree more formal. It feels to some degree intimate, yet those eyes are very distanced. I think each element here is effective and well executed. I'm not quite sure of their relationships.
