The boss and I were in the area working cows and stopped in at The

Jersey Lilly for lunch. Life is good out West.

A very good b/w shot. Do you have it in colour too? Great contrast, composition, and lightning. Almost like in a C&W movie. Best regards, Torfinn.

Superb composition, Susan. I really like this a lot, might look pretty nifty with a bit of a sepia tone too. Hey, being a Montana boy (born and raised), I thought I knew where ever little hamlet in the state was...Where the heck is Ingomar, Montana? North-central? Eastern part of the state? I am headed up to Glacier NP for a week in late-July; all the kids and their husbands, boyfriends, etc. are meeting us in Columbia Falls. Cheers! Chris

Yes Torfinn, I shot this in color and converted to B&W to give it a "vintage" feel, but I liked the color also. Thank you for the visit and comments.

You don't know where Ingomar is Chris? You've missed a great spot, I go there often and have enjoyed many a meal and rip roaring party at the Jersey Lilly. It's on the map.

Yeah, like I have a map of Montana in my backpocket while I wander around downtown Los Angeles (LOL). Actually, I just looked it up and see that it is in Rosebud County on U.S. 12. My God, you are out in the middle of nowhere. I've probably been through there a time-or-two, but just a time-or-two. Have a beer for me! Cheers! Chris

I like the height here and the overall mood of this picture, I'll bet it was a good lunch!

Hummmm....Chris, no map but you walk around LA with a computer in hand!? LOL

Jessica the "nags" names are Juniper and Blue Duck, they're brothers and both really good cow horses. They appreciated getting out of the hot trailer and posing in front of the Jersey Lilly for me.

Kellen, the Jersey Lilly is famous for it's home cooked beans and "sheepherders hors d'oeuvres".

You managed quite well to make this look like something out of the 1800s era. It certainly did not look like this on the day I stopped in for a cold drink. Nice photo! I think sepia would be best.

First of all, this shot works great with the vertical format. It really accentuates the flagpole and the signpole and all of the supports going up from the boardwalk. And it does work well in B&W. Very nicely done!

Second, WOW - I'll bet there are towns like this here there and everywhere out West. You KNEW what this shot would do to me, didn't you? :-) I looked it up on a map, too ... and it looks like Ingomar has eight streets. Do all eight of them look like this? Dirt street with wooden boardwalks in front of the buildings? This is definitely the kind of stuff I want to explore when I'm out West!!

I'm sorry Susan but apparently we have a small copyright issue - but I've spoken to the governor and he'll hold back on sending the Rangers if you'll make oneee little change .... (-;

What you see is what you get Lou Ann, the saloon is the ONLY business in town, the other streets have mostly abandoned houses. This is sorta the "social center" in the middle of nowhere.

Oh Ken, I'm so gald you're back, we've all missed your wonderful "succinct" posts. I know about the Texas Jersey Lilly and wouldn't be surprised if the Montana version wasn't named after the Lone Star one. Didn't they call Judge Roy Bean the "hanging judge"?! And once again someone has to point out that things are always "bigger and better" in Texas....huh Tex?! And just where do you find all the trivia?

I have to say, I almost wish it was still this way everywhere. Perhaps in Argentina, still...

I think they'll have car-jacking cured if they will start hangin' the culprits to the highest billboard when the posse catches 'em. (That was just the next thought your photo gave me, in case you were wonderin'.) I know you can't leave your vehicle out in the parking lot runnin' like this anymore. ~Sky

Another well done, well composed image Susan. I enjoyed googling Ingomar and reading it's information and history. I got a giggle out of the Jersey Lilly's web site which reads "reservations not necessarily required."

Ingomar is one of my favorite stops when we're going to Forsyth to work cows, the ranch runs stock on leased land around that area so a stop at the Jersey Lilly is inevitable. The town and saloon have an interesting history.

btw that is Lillie Langtry, the Jersey Lillie, see http://www.lillielangtry.com/

acc. to google there is a Jersey Lillie's in Pennsylvania as well.

as for Roy Bean, two movies, one back around 1940, Gary Cooper encounters the Judge and his adoration of Miss Langtry, Judge Roy Bean, played by Walter Brennan, who won an Oscar for this role..... then the western part if not all spoof with Paul Newman as the Judge, Ava Gardner played Langtry.

I keep thinking I may be trading in my car for a horse by 2015. Always wanted a classic Mustang, just thought it would be a Ford.

I appreciate the history lesson wj, I had seen a movie about Lilly and Judge Roy Bean but I couldn't remember the name of it. The only "business" open in Ingomar is the Saloon, looks mostly like a ghost town, lots of interesting history.

Hi Andrea, when we stopped for lunch there were no cars parked out front so I unloaded the horses and tied them to the hitching rail.

Yup Kim, this is on our itinerary, you'll love the place.

Well, I'm a little late to the party, but thought I'd add my half a cents worth anyway. Of course it is a quality image, and I think you have been quite successful in handling the nasty differential in lighting between the street with full sun, and the overhang with shadow. The composition is excellent. I do find myself wishing you could have gotten that gent on the bench to slide a little closer so that his head and shoulder would not have been obscured. I know. "Picky, picky, picky." Well, we can always dream about a perfect world.

Well my "picky" friend, I just happen to have another shot just like this one except the gentleman is leaning on the post next to the "butts" can so when I get the time I'll edit it and post it just for you. And I think when you wander by I'll just drag your butt down to the Jersey Lilly and you can buy me a bowl of beans.

Done deal.

I'll be home tomorrow, and the trip will be over. What will be left is a ton of wonderful memories amongst which my time with you will remain uppermost in my mind. I will never be able to repay you adequately, but at least you should know the depth of my gratitude. Thank you.
