Johannes No 2

I converted the picture to black and white. Removed some of the interfering background, lightened it as it was quite dark, cropped and sharpened using Paintshop Pro X

Johannes No 2 works at a steel supplier in Bethlehem. He is

called "Johannes No 2" because the other Johannes working there is

older than him and he is No 1. It is hard and grimy work.

Critiques are very welcome as I am a newbie to digital photography.

Thank you for looking.

Irmgard, I think this is a very powerful portrait. I think you've captured something here. Even without your description of the subject's job or station in life, I think it could have almost been deduced from your image. I think Rohinton Mistry described it as the "fine balance" between hope and despair. Well done, my friend. Exceptional work, thanks for sharing it. BD

This is a great portrait. Direct, strong, and straightforward, with a strong sense of connection and a feeling that you captured just the right moment. There is sincerity in this photograph.

I really appreciate your critique, Bill. I have never really taken photos of people deliberatly. I prefer macro and nature. I was quite amazed how this picture resulted.

I have looked at your gallery and I am actually wondering if I should be on this site. Your work is outstanding. Regards, Irmgard
