The Ice Cavern

Halfway through a 70 mile ski traverse of the Canadian Rockies in winter, we stumbled upon this huge cavern under the Mons Icefield.

Michael what an incredible find. The people in the photo give it real scale. Excellent - Sean

And thank you for the e-mail earlier.

Very amazing place. A tighter crop or closer perspective would be great to capture more of those beautiful blues and textures in the ice.

Cheers.

Incredible image of an amazing place. The term 'otherworldly' is used far too often but very much applies here. This is possibly my favorite of your work.

Great shot, was there just a constant lamp you put in there or was it a flash or two? Good luck and keep photographing!

You know, I`ve been thinking: what can actually surprise me more on PN, well, since I`ve seen many outstanding photos recently, but I am REALLY surprised!!!... And place it self, is this from a Star wars movie, or what...?! { :) Regards

Amazing colors, layers, and textures......I'll bet you were overjoyed to find such a spectacular place to photograph! Bravo! I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to email you. I Googled Mons Icefield, and I still don't have a clear idea of where it is. I'm also interested in your South American pictures, which are brilliant as well!

hi michael

I am a novice in photography and I have loved all your pics.. this one is beautiful too, but i have a question here.. It looks like the pic was taken in low light conditions.. I initially thought it was taken with slow shutter speed, but the people in the pic are not moving.. how did you manage to take it with good lighting and apparently without a slow shutter..

thanks

I meant to comment on this one a while ago.  I love this image.  It must have been quite a unique experience.  The glistening ice at the top really adds to the magical feel of the cave.
