Your technique of using supersharp optics has done well here, with focus perfectly on the boy's eyes and diminishing depth of field in the back of the hat shows that you did not just 'stop down' your camera for great depth of field and sharpness throughout. Dead center placement does have a place, as you have shown; this portrait is more than just a portrait but also somewhat of a 'still life' in effect, and also a study in geometric precision (look at the roundness of the hat and the precise placement of the boy within the frame). . . . for a simple but simply fine portrait.

On a personal note, I have not overlooked nor forgotten your remark in my portfolio about your presence at and photographing during the Paris photo expo in Oct/Nov., last year and promptly looked at your photography (for the first time) and was greatly impressed.

I am still posting shots from that period and a subsequent visit to paris, and my uploads are hardly depleted (I'm prolific if nothing else).

Our styles differ greatly in many respects, but it's clear that you know it's 'the image that counts', and to your captures it is clear that you take your time and aim for perfection -- often achieving it.

John are your Paris photos in a particular folder? Thank you for your comments.

This boy's slightly older brother had a small sombrero on and I took his photo and then not wanting the younger one to feel ignored I took his. He had on a baseball cap but then his dad but his own sombrero on him and I got the above shot. Next he swopped with his brother so that he now had the smaller hat. Just explaining that this so that you (the viewer) realise that not all shots are grab shots.

My daughter reckoned he had on mascara his eyelashes were so long! The original is a high res full frame digi shot and the sharpness and focus are even more noticeable.
