This can either be a space shot of a large canyon somewhere, a close-up of a rock formation, or a macro shot of flat rock.

I like how it makes you think. Really Cool.

My guess is lava and sand. My view of this photo is much like David Brown's (above). I don't

find anything terribly interesting here. The tones appear drab. I might have liked this photo

more in color. No great DOF. Just some odd shapes.

And if you look at the rest of Caffeine L's portfolio here and elsewhere on the Internet, this

photo does not seem to be the best of this photographer.

The form and formation( the X shape and round form) is interesting, as well as the texture. I like the B/W execution. The "narrative" here is nature creation. As a geometric natural shape it is well observed.

The purpose and success of a good abstract is to make the viewers think and like it at the same time.I find Caffeine has succeeded in these respects.

An uncompromisingly provocative and intriguing image, perceptively seen and composed from the wider context. I particularly warmed to the gingerbread head and outstretched arms in the centre right diagonal half of the frame. Notwithstanding these qualities I remained dissatisfied. My dissatisfaction sprang from two concerns: first abstractions often benefit from the textural variations in the different parts of the composition and I felt that with sharper focus and a tighter depth of field the contrasted textures of sand and rock would have added a dimension to the abstract shapes. Also, a stronger and heavier contrast between the light sand and dark rock would have intensified the abstract and dramatic shapes of the composition. It would be interesting to know the PPP to assess the scope for further development of the image to assess whether changes would have enhanced and strengthened the impact of the image.

I looked at your portfolio, and I like the other versions of rock formations. I like that idea of seeing a truly and unique design of nature. I think that anthracite color of rock has a volcanic history.

That is a formation from lava. It seem it is a young rock formation.

Just finished reading the chapter on framing in Michael Patterson's "The Photographers Eye" which helped me understand the difficulty in composing in a square format. I suspect that it was chosen here in an attempt to crop out something distracting after the fact, rather than seeing a harmonious whole in the viewfinder.

The other issue is the light (or post-processing). Too much dark gray, which diminishes the impact of the textural interest.

I love details, so I loved this photo -- the simple, strong, graphic shapes, lines, and textures. To walk along a rocky beach and see crashing surf or flaming sunsets -- anyone with a camera will take a picture of that. To look down at your feet and see a natural composition in a square meter or less -- this is photographic vision. Congratulations.

I find it to be quite beautiful. The 'classic' composition supports the subject and its tones and

contrast. It has textures, and a large gamet of grays. As a geologist I wonder why erosion

produced those structures. A weaker mass within more resistant? To add a tiny bit to the

aesthetic elements, I'd put a thin black border around the whole photo.

i find this picture, beautiful, the use of natural light and natural images and materials, the hues are not harmful to one's eyes and so it can possibly be hanged in every wall.

good shot caffeine! i want to see more of your pictures!
