arash khoshghadam 0 Posted March 10, 2007 This image by John is a very prominent abstraction that would engage us had John not intentionally given away what it is. There are many noteworthy elements here that demand attention: First things first, his appropriate proportioning and crop has included a tiny orange layer which acts like an accent for the rest of the frame in what can be technically referred to as emphasis through color and isolation, so is the balance well-envisaged. John lead our eyes onto the orange layer to give us a visual relief after engaging us in the rich, sharp texture with tiny white spots which stimulate us visually to employ our subconscious attempt for seeking similarities leading to unity and coherence. The image is low in tonality and even the orange color doesn't do better than mid-tonality range, but that's a valuable asset here since it bring forth a sense of tranquility and stability. Very effective abstraction indeed. Link to comment

mcclure 0 Posted August 31, 2008 Sorry - I've been away from PN for the last month so I'm just seeing your kind comments. This is a photograph of paving salt on a rail platform in the dead of winter. I killed the midtones and pumped the the saturation. The object was to deny the eye and create a pattern the mind needs to resolve. Thanks for the support, john Link to comment
