Dennis Newman 0 Posted February 22, 2007 A nicely composed, well thought out photo. Sky seems a little too washed out to me. But I think you've done a good job of arranging the elements. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted February 22, 2007 Outstanding light and colors, the glowing hues of the moss in the foreground are almost unearthly. Obviously a bit later than the previous photo. I dare say, this tonal quality is yet impossible to obtain digitally. Hats off Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 22, 2007 Mike both of them are very unusual images, interesting pool? framed by the rocks I like the transparency and glow in the water, this first plan is attracting while entering the image, and than leads you to the vegetation, far mountains, and the lighted sky which are glowing like the water in the FG. I was visiting here for a long time enjoying these two. The light on the other one is as well wonderful. Very good DOF, and exposure as usual is spot on! Can you give some more details on that spot.? mikestacey 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Thanks Dennis, Carsten and Pnina. The exposure was 6 minutes (from memory) for this Carsten with a 3 stop GND and it all seemed to work OK not requiring too much work in PS although the sky was a bit burnt. This one was taken before the other (before sunrise). Not sure about digital's aility to capture this tonal range but the exposure lattitude of this film is less than dig. so it should be possible? Maybe the range of colour would be difficult with dig. though? Pnina this spot is near my house and overlooks the vast Sydney plain. It's at an altitude of about 1000m, Sydney is sea level so you can look out at night and see all the lights, or in the mornings you can often see a layer of mist covering Sydney. Link to comment
joel_truckenbrod 0 Posted February 23, 2007 The sense of distance here is stunning. I personally like the way the sky is rendered as it feels very natural to me. A tasteful and beautiful image. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Thanks MIke, I thought it was sunset... The quality of shadows as shown here is hard to obtain digitally, IMO (at least, with a single shot). Wonderful surroundings, enviable ;-) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 26, 2007 Thanks Mike for the explanation, it is really an interesting image, and not bad to live near to it ;-)) Link to comment
andrew ren 0 Posted March 4, 2007 Hard work, Mike. Did you hike early morning to get on this spot? High quality of light. Regards Andrew Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted March 11, 2007 Andrew and Pnina thanks. No hiking for this one Andrew, it's about 5 minutes from the car. Link to comment
