A male barking tree frog found in my backyard.

Not bad but mebe a little to much with the flash - a diffuser probably would have been nice, but then again I can't imagine you wanted to miss the frog altogether :)

Taken with an olympus C3030Z in macro with flash. I think perhaps it

should be cropped more from the right. But what can make small animal

pictures (I want it to be more documentary of the frog than artistic)

better?

Frogs can be tough. I tried something similar once and I always had trouble with the skin being "too shiny".

Very nice though. I like it. I find the pattern on it's back to be the most interesting.

Nice shot. Cropped as a vertical I think would be an improvement. Off camera flash, with a reflector, or two flashes might improve the lighting.
