Thanks Laurent, Michael, and Karina...

Karina, you are right to the point...:-)...was and still am not sure of this middle position..but I kept the foreground as I think it put emphasis on the guy's sollitude early in the morning...just another crop to compare....

Sorry, Karina, but...Laurent, please don't change anything. The composition is perfectly balanced this way. As you said, the large water space contrasting with the small size of the lone character adds to the mood. Besides, I would say that the subtle tones and the slight ondulations on the water surface are visually very nice. I Like the fact that it is darker at the very bottom and gradually gets brighter towards the bridge. Finally, I would add that if we consider the bottom line of the lake where the town starts in the background, we then don't have a half-half composition, but a one-third two- thirds, which again makes the picture perfectly balanced. Great shot, Laurent.

The other Laurent is absolutely correct. You've got it right here. Glad you do not feel the necessity of blindly following a bunch of rules, which are only suggestions and meant to be broken once one comprehends their purpose. It is so nice to see the darkness gradually turning to whiter shades and nothingness to somethingness. And, of course, many of your favorite linear elements are prominent. Good one mate.

Well executed B&W image with the crisp foreground fading sharply to the foggy background. Nice graphical black elements in the foreground play nicely against the light buildings and boats in the background. I have to admit that my first thought was to crop up from the bottom to just below the white tower reflection,

but then the image looked out of balance it would have been nice to have more motion to the water for interest. Best Regards Anthony

Laurent, I like it as is as well, rich composition where the smooth FG is nicely ballancing the busy but blured BG.IMO the central lined bridge , with the walking man works well to combine the two parts and a good contrast to the overall gray atmospher. nice image.

This one belongs in the folder with all of your best . Classic. I'm too tired tonight to attempt any aesthetic analysis except to say the contrast of subject matter and background could not be more perfect. The man walking on the pier is the crucial element here and perfectly placed. Altogether excellent. They won't let me rate it now but this is what I consider a 7/7. Regards, Jack
