Alix, I suppose Van Gogh would get 3/3 for his sunflowers here. LOL

Mary, Michael, Adolfo, thanks for adding your comments.

Therese, I think the Adm is doing what they can; some anonymous ratings are from boots, robots and when they detect them, the ratings are deleted. Six ratings were deleted on this picture. As to anonymity, well, they insist it's more objective and free. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Anonynous = objective and free? Good grief. That might be true if I didn't care about the opinion of the rater, but the whole objective of the rating system here is to obtain the opinion of a peer, not some anonymous thought of a stranger whose qualifications are completely unknowable.

Biswajit, Greg, thank you so much for your comments.

John, I know what you mean, but don't think anomymity will be solved in a near future.

Yes, the 4/3 is ridiculous as well. I don't believe some actually know the meaning of originality or what they are rating on. Correct you are. The interpretation of an iris as you have here is very different & imaginative. It's very undeserving of a 3

Hi Ken, I think some click and rate without even watching the image. It's highlu irritating, but guess the only solution is to ignore them no matter how irritating ( and they are) this can result. Thanks for saying what you said.

I know that this has been extensively discussed, both here and elsewhere, but this is one of my own crusades, so here it is:

1. Your peers obviously think that this image is worth something between 6-6 and 7-7. As, for once, there is here a statistically significant number of voters, we all know what to dump. I've looked very attentively, and not a single low rater has dared "show his hand" so to speak. Not a single one took the time to explain why they downrated this image.

2. Hence, this "anonymous" affair has to go down the drain. And it will - one day. It's a matter of how many years it takes Them to see the light.

3. There are two main categories of "robots" voting extensively: machines, and humans. Nobody can tell me that a PN official member can rate more than 6000 photos in a single month. This is pure, utter nonsense. And there ARE some. If one takes the minimum decent time of two minutes for each picture, that means 7 hours a day, seven days a week. The guy must be sleeping on his keyboard.

4. The two criteria for rating presume that the average PN member is a moron.

5. Small sizes do not allow for a good evaluation of any picture. It's like putting a Duchamp on a postcard and asking for an opinion. Or a Corot. Or a Titien. Or a whatever.

Thank you for taking the time for reading this, I had it on my chest.

And let me tell you, Paula, why I gave it a 7-7, using their hated criteria. I do not know what this work of art is really about. I think that this is purely abstract, but I could be entirely wrong. And I don't give a d*** if you'll excuse my French. It is a beauty of forms, a beauty of colours. What else could one ask?

I fear that some rate pictures telling themselves "this is my kind of picture", a "I love landscapes let's give it a 6" kind of affair. I am sorry, but rating is serious business and should go way beyond one's own preferences. Like, if you don't like modern music, don't rate it, listen to something else.

Whew! There I am at it again!

So refreshing to see a totally unique treatment that isn't over processed, doesn't have a gazillion colors and delivers its message so effectively. Well done! Cheers -
