I never tire of these shots, and this one is no exception. Very nice capture of not only the phenomenon, but also the mountains. Very nicely done...congrats...LJ

Mike, another spectacular share. Beautiful composition and colors. I check your portfolio frequently as a "treat", it remains one of my all time favorites. I can only imagine the amount of effort and planning involved in getting to these locations and capturing not just the aurora's but such beautiful landscapes.

Lovely, absolutely lovely. With solar max about to start expect to see more and more of these and maybe we'll be lucky enough to see some down here in Maryland

Thanks everyone for the feedback and kind words. I'm glad you don't tire of seeing these aurora photos, as I never tire of taking them ;)

Therese, you are right. We have turned the corner and solar activity should be on the rise in the next few years, with solar max due around 2010-2011. And the predictions are that this solar max will be especially active. So I bet you'll have a chance to see some aurorae in MD... (I used to live on the Eastern Shore and loved it there).

And thank you Tamara. A photographer with your talents would do great photographic justice to Alaska. So do plan on that trip, and let me know if I can send you any information to help in that effort.

Cheers,

Mike K.

It almost feels as if the aurora is playing music for the stars. I can feel the crispy air, the special sound of snow under your boots while wolves howl somewhere in the wilderness. Such atmosphereic photograph, Mike.

Goodnight from Annemette and a server that only seems to work while being on photo.net

Thank you Sandra for the visit and the comments.

The night sky, even without the aurora, is a truly magical canvas on which mother nature displays her boundless creativity... always humbling.
