Beautiful pose from a beautiful fox. Great capture, these guys rarely cooperate

so this is truly special. (I'm in NH and have to ask how cold it was up there ?I just hear "Mt. Washington" and I get the shivers :)

Thanks all,

THe fox was taken in the Alpine Zone atop of New Hampshire's highest peak. The fox is wild, but fairly used to hikers and other people being around. Many rodents seek thermal refuge around the Summit Buildings, and the fox hunts at the summit daily.

He is skittish, but ever curious, and often he mirrors movements, meaning if I sit, so will he.

Light was low in this shot, I wish he would come by earlier in the day, but this is about 10 minutes after sunset.

Conditions outside weren't too bad, temp: 15, winds 30mph, but sheltered.

How lucky you were that this fella was in the mood to have his pic taken. They are usually so shy. Simply outstanding Photograph! Kim

Love the shot. The foxes you guys have look so different from the foxes I've seen here in the UK! Much more... majestic perhaps?

A few things come to my mind though

- would underexposing the background by half a stop and bringing up the fox with fill flash make for a more dramatic image?

- would fill flash alone with the current metering equalize or flatten the image?

Right now the white is very mildly overpowering the fox, it's creaing a "frame" of sorts, but my eyes are moving between the fox's head and the white areas above the head.

- how would the image look like from an even lower vantage point?

Also, I haven't checked but is the full range of the histogram in use? The image itself on my monitor seems a little underexposed.

Again, great shot! Wish I had a chance like that!

Regards,

Alvin

I was amazed with the thumbnail and had to click to take a closer look. Just amazing is all I can say even if he is sort of tame.
