Dream photo. It is unusual to see such work in color. Perhaps the light areas are too light and the sand too dark, I don't know. Feel free to offer your own impression about this point.

Genial Marek ! I've seen this picture in Lighthamony. It's impressive, so simple and elegant... just color and light... even, to me, without the steps would be more impressive... it reminds me to the "Contact" movie, in the final scene, where "she" find her father... the surreal beach to me is exactly as your picture. Marek, this is indeed a beautiful shot and it works well with the footprints. But yet I took the liberty to clone them out to see whether a complete abstract would work. For me, it does, what do you think ?

Peter, thanks for your input - I think it works as well because the difference in the overall design of the image is not so significant. To give you a little background, I decided to make footsteps after I had my camera set up for this shot. Looking thru the viewfinder, I realized that the effect of long exposure can be too dreamy, too unreal so I thought it could be interesting to add a sign of mankind. I must say that I was quite pleased when I had seen the result. Coming back to what I said above, the design itself is not amended much but the impact of one or the other version would strongly depend on a viewer. For me, the footsteps provided a balance (not visual but rather conceptual) to surreal rendition of the sky and the sea. That's to say, I love abstracts but I also look for something honest or factual about them. Some little hint to help me with identification. The more so for this particular image where the hint was a product of my own creative process (in other words, I was too biased to clone the footprints out).

 

On the other hand, I can easily imagine a desire of many of us to take this opportunity and make totally unearthly image that everybody would get busy answering a question what and where on earth it was that I captured. To go this route, as the author, I would prefer to create a powerful series of similarly designed photographs to convey a right message. But honestly, living far from any sea and lacking any free time, I do not feel like undertaking such projects. And having only one in the portfolio does not really do a justice to its style that I try to keep consistent.

 

This doesn't mean that one or the other is worse. It depends. Sometimes on a goal of an artist, sometimes on a mood of a viewer. And always on both. I want both to have a choice. And when they match, our mission was completed...:-)
