A section of Bristol F2bs (Brisfits) take off for the first of the

day's action in Northern France, late WW1. Your comments

very well done. I would make the far airplane a little bit more of a sihloette, and the close airp;ane seems to have some strange lighting going on -on the tail, it doesnt look natural to me.

Beutiful photographs.

Something about the placement and perspective on these airplanes strikes me as not natural, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Maybe it is that the largest aircraft is so much larger than the other two. It's more than twice the size of the second airplane, so that means it's less than half the distance away. But comparing it size to the vegetation in the foreground, it must still be some distance away from the observer -- a couple hundred feet or so. That means it is a couple hundred feet closer than the second airplane, and they are not really flying in formation. I don't know what any of this means; I'm just trying to understand why my eye doesn't buy the illusion in this case. I think it relates to the differing size of the aircraft and the scale provided by the foreground setting up some sort of optical contradiction, but I'm not sure.

Nice colors and composition, anyway.

I've always been a huge fan of your work Pat, and no surprise, the History Channel. Seeing the two of them merge; is what art and imagination is all about. I so dearly love this, because it really happened, 88 years ago. Stunning composition, light and perspective.
