srspears 0 Posted August 21, 2002 Hey all, I'm having some trouble getting new photos uploaded on the net (my issues, not pn's). So here's another older photo of mine that's been up for awhile. Feel free to comment at will. Personally, I'd like to have gotten a tighter shot here, but I didn't have my 300mm yet. So it was taken with 200mm/1.4x on E100VS pushed to 200. Mid day overcast sun. Original photo had additional cub off to the left, but I cropped it out. I'm trying to capture personality in the animal. What do you think? Link to comment
jbrand 0 Posted August 21, 2002 Hi Steph. I like this shot. I find myself wondering what the cub is watching so intently, and is that a playful expression or does he see something good to eat? On my monitor the picture seems a little soft focus. It may just be the way the file compression program left it. To answer your question about conveying personality, to me you did. Nice shot! srspears 0 Posted August 21, 2002 Hey John, Thanks for the comments. There were 3 cubs born to the mother, and they were playing. I think at this moment one was to the left and the third was at the bottom. I think this was taken a moment before he pounced on his/her litter mate! Link to comment
dick_stahlke 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Nice shot.... can't go wrong w/ kids and cubs! If anything, it'd be nice to see the eyes, but the intent focus the animal has on something certainly adds to the tension of the moment! Link to comment
gerard 0 Posted August 24, 2002 You get quickly curious about what is this cub staring/stalking so hard. I love the expression in its face and its tension of about to get into action. Maybe including what it was looking at would have given a stronger picture, but I like this one anyway. Looking forward to see your next one ;-) -regards, Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 29, 2002 To answer your question, I'd say you captured the playful, mischievous side of the cub pretty well Link to comment
tony_k. 0 Posted September 11, 2002 Hi Stephanie...very nice shot of the cub. I'm particularly intrigued with the shape of the cub's nose! The shot has a difficult foreground (it calls attention to a captive animal),and I think you've done well in handling the exposure. As with most shots of children and small animals, the 45 degree "adult" camera position may not be the best...a lower "at their level" is generally more appealing. Also a tighter crop may also reduce the captive look. Link to comment
