how do you get these awesome shots of the planes going over your head? they are great angles, we usually dont see them all that often.

Nice shot Alex. Looks like great weather this weekend at Dux for a change. This one has nice symmetry and could pass for air to air. I guess ideally the plane should be a little lower to get the whole prop in and give it some space to fly up into, but in the heat of the moment that is a lot to ask!

Your other pics from this event are good too, mostly basic straight-on stuff but with the subject matter how can you go wrong. This would be the one that really stands out from the group as a photograph.

Definitely not your run of the mill warbird shot! COngrats - you suffered for your art (well, nearly suffered!:)). Its a captivating image and a perspective most of us don't get to see. At first I questioned the wing crop as it is now, but after looking at it more, I have to say that I am convinced - this is probably the strongest way to present this image. All in all, a job very well done.

Duxford has a unique arrangement of a grass runway in front of a concrete one, and the crowd line bends in at the end of the grass runway which means if you stand in the right spot you are looking down the length of the grass runway.

When you get multiple planes taking off from the grass (3x P-51's in this case) the one nearest the crowdline sometimes ends up coming directly overhead, but it's rare for them to come over as low as this did. At first I didn't realise how low it was as I was looking through the viewfinder, but when all I could see in the corner of my eyes were wings, I knew it was close! I'm sure I probably ducked!

My ears were ringing for several minutes, and there was a unified shout of "Whooaaaaa!!!" from all the people around me.

I managed to get a similar shot of a Spit at Duxford in July at the Legends airshow.

Duxford is terrific, the best place I have ever watched an airshow, and that's even setting aside the history of the place.
