DrewBayless 3 Posted December 3, 2006 This feels refreshingly different and unconventional to me, compared to many landscape shots. The vertical format and the amount sky, (highlighting the solitary aspect of the cloud) works well IMHO. The 'simplicity' of the image and 'neutral' title allows me to project a few different thoughts into this.(By 'neutral title' I mean not calling this 'lonely cloud' or something more suggestive). My reactions, FWIW were 1st a sort of amusement/surprise value, then a concentration on the aesthetics of the blue gradient, cloud, grass etc, and finally a curiosity in wanting to see over the crest of the ridge, and imagining what lies beyond. Cheers. Link to comment
timbowles 0 Posted December 3, 2006 Thank you both- I love shooting minimalistic pieces, as they are so challenging to make effective- leaving just the right amount in the frame to do the job (I have many very *uneffective* minimalist pieces). Drew- I appreciate your analysis of this photo, as you have seen what I was trying to say- this makes me succesful in this photograph. This day was *so hot*, and the sky was just brilliantly blue, with such a gorgeous gradation. It reminded me of the sky in the outback of Australia when I was there years ago. I used a polarizer to ramp up the color, and placed the horizon low to add a bit of tension, and emphasize the sky. I just wished that cloud was a weeeeeee bit higher...... Tim Link to comment
