jeffreylee 0 Posted October 2, 2006 I shooted this photo at dawn of 2nd Oct 2006. This is one exposure photo . Post work by photoshop (sharpen, contrast and shadow ) I slightly adjust the colour temp. to a bit warmer because I usually find the Australia dawn colour temp. is a bit cold. Spec. (10mm, 2sec exposure on below sea level, 0.25sec exposure using black card on sky and sun, 20f, 100 ISO. ) I wish you like it or drop me some comments. Thanks Link to comment

cromwell1664877587 0 Posted October 2, 2006 This is a beautiful photo. You probably wanted to keep all of the dark round section at the top of the cliff, but I feel if you cropped half of it off the whole picture would be easier on the eyes. Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted October 2, 2006 Brilliant is all I can say. Your black card technique works flawlessly. I think if you try to crop the top you will wreck the proportions of sky to water & rock. Link to comment
mike_bonsall 0 Posted October 2, 2006 An almost 3D image. Very good indeed. Would you mind explaining your 'black card' technique in more detail? Mike Link to comment

jamespjones 0 Posted October 2, 2006 First let me say that I strive to achieve the range of exposure you have achieved in this image. It is a good photo. I think that the ground looks too artificial though. Something about the lightness of the rock directly in line with the horizon on the right side. Also, there is a halo effect going on on the top part of the rock edge that seems a little distracting. I don't know what this would have looked like in person; if the rock would look this bright per se, but you may want to tone it down just a touch - something about the shadows doesn't seem quite right on that light rock area. It is a matter of aesthetic; and therefore you may like this photo just as is where I want a less "super-real" look in the brightness of the rock. Link to comment
rafikrkamel 1 Posted October 2, 2006 Intersting shot, The composition and the movement of water works very well, regards, RK! Link to comment
jeffreylee 0 Posted October 3, 2006 Jones, Thanks your comment. Yes, maybe I catched what you mean. I see similar comments a lot from my friends about why the sky and the rocks are same bright or even brighter. For me living in Sydney, at the dawn time if the rocks are darker than the sky in a fine day it is only happening in my dream or comic book. In the real situation, before the sunrise half to one hour, you can read book without using your torch, you can drive without turn on the head lights. I reminded me when I was first time shooting the sunrise, I checked up the sunrise time on internet to make sure I wouldn't missing. When I arrival the field, it was so bright like daytime. I thought I read the wrong information from the internet and I missed the sunrise moment but when I checked around that I couldn't find any sun in any direction. Therefore if I want to slow down the wave moment I added NDx8 to extend the shutter time longer. I am not sure other countries how sunrise colour temp. look like but what I shooted in Sydney, the photo was very close to what I see from my eyes. I often struggle to use PS to darken the rocks to make it look like close to my dream picture but I am lazy to do it. Regards Link to comment
jeffreylee 0 Posted October 3, 2006 Thanks your a.jpg attachment and your kindly work. It is much better that my version. Thanks and I would try to do the same thing for my next photo. Some people can avoided this by cutting their black cut's edge like the shape of the cliff rocks. Probably it is worth to try but I need to arrival the field more earlier to do some handcraft works. leonid padrul 0 Posted October 6, 2006 The wonderful impression also would be desirable to dive into a dark blue chasm. Link to comment
