Hope you take your Sony as well as your Canon. Can't wait 'til you get back. Be careful and have a good time.....Jim

Excellent picture Jim! I am specially fascinated by this subtle line of clouds that close the picture so well. Regards, Luc.

Hi Jim, Great image. Perfectly framed the clouds are very interesting too, look like Indian smoke signals. When you use your DSC-F828 to do IR work, do you use any filtering? I have a DSC-F707 but haven't done much with it as far as IR, it's been a workhorse otherwise. Just got an Canon EOS 5D but still would like to explore some IR. Nice work.

Hello Randy, Seems as though we may have spoken before........I do use filters, at present I have a 87C sandwiched between a UV and a linear polarizer. The polarizer is supposed to be the farthest from the lens. This isn't the first set of filters I tried. My original filter combination was a Hoya R-72 with a couple of Neutral Densities, but I wasn't getting the textures in the grasses that looked right to me. I think the R-72 combo may be right for your 707 and also a 717 as well....Also you'll need to set the camera on night mode and I have best results putting the dial on the green camera symbol(auto everything). My images record as pale green monochromes and low contrast, in my opinion. So I have a little software work to do before they get posted or printed.....I wanted to tell you, I didn't learn IR by myself. A very good and great friend has helped me enormously, you may be familiar with his photographs on here, his name is Tony Georgiadis. Tony uses a 717 and a V3 for his IR, and his IR filter is an R-72.......Hope this helps, don't be afraid to ask, I'll tell you if I know.....Good luck.....Jim

Classic Kerr IR. Care to explain the self destrcut part Jim, the barn 'appears' to be in good condition...

Hi Ben, If you get up fairly close you can see how it is really being let fall apart.....I first discovered this place about 30 years ago, and in the early 80s, I shot many rolls of 35mm b+w, some slides, and some 120 b+w. It's about 10 miles from our house. If you would care to look, there are several of these shots in my portfolio( from scanned negatives and slides mostly). The views of the other sides are somewhat different......The far side, as you see it here, has a small creek(beck) running close by.......Jim

Hi Ben, yeh, there are a few window panes that have fallen out, there is a good bit of rust showing through the paint of the roof, there are some strips of wood are pealing away, plus alot of the louvres are needing repair.....I first found this place about 30 years ago. Then back around 1980 I shot many rolls(mostly 35mm B&W, a few 120, plus some 35mm slides). Back then this place was immaculate, there were great shots to be had from this west side, south, and the east(far side). There is also a great little creek(beck) on the far side, but now covered by weeds.....In my portfolio there are several more shots of this place, if you would care to look......Jim

as usual like this IR shot a lot!! After reading the other people's comments and went back for a second look the clouds do really remind someone of smoke signals. You know how I feel about IR and also the old barns, homeplaces, etc.
