cherlyn 1 Posted September 14, 2006 Caught this baby Orang Utan eating his Durain (The king of tropical fruits ) & enjoying it tremendously. In the Malay language, "orang-utan" means "man of the forest."Orang-utans have brown and rust-colored shaggy fur. They weigh an average of 50 kg (110 lb) and can weigh over 90 kg (200 lb). The orang-utan lives in tropical, swamp and mountain forests, where it eats mostly fruit, leaves and insects. Adult orang-utans are generally solitary, except when a male and a female are together for mating. The home range of an adult male usually overlaps the ranges of several adult females. Orang-utans are not territorial. Most animals in a given area appear to maintain a loose relationship, although adult males are hostile to one another. A single young is usually born about every six years.http://c18.statcounter.com/counter.php?sc_project=1879689&java=0&security=5a1f18b3&invisible=1 Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted September 15, 2006 Cherlyn, Being in Indonesia, we were taken to a center in the woods where Orang Utans were learning to live in nature after being freed from captivity, that lovely photo brought me back to that forest! thanks, Pnina Link to comment
claire 0 Posted September 15, 2006 Having been to Borneo to see the Orangs I can appreciate the shot! Sadly, I visited on a really humid, damp day and have very few decent shots so well done. Link to comment

blackdogstudio 1 Posted September 16, 2006 Cherlyn, beautiful capture of this Great Ape! Really like the impression of shyness in the posture and a definite child-like and questioning look in the eyes. Superb framing of this quiet one who appears to think deep thoughts! Great diagonal elements as well! Regards, Kelvin. Link to comment
