graham john miles 0 Posted September 3, 2006 A marvellous piece of photomontage although it's hard to tell which were original elements and which were inserted. There's a lot going on here and lots to hold our interest. What I find distracting though is the flatness of the image and lack of contrast. Obviously you are an accomplished digital processor and so this must have been a conscious choice, but I feel the image needs extra snap or sparkle to make it jump off the page. I hope you don't mind but I tried an experiment in PS to illustrate my point. Link to comment
digidom 0 Posted September 3, 2006 I don't mind at all Milo, but it doesn't work for me. Our screens are obviously out of Sync. I can only tell you that she looks OK in print. best Dominic Link to comment
steve_bingham 0 Posted September 26, 2006 Dominic, Congratulations on your recent Spider B&W award. Pretty special award - and a great tribute to your work! Your work has always been at the top of my list. Glad to see others agree. :^) I imagine your images are low key on purpose. I notice this one has values from 0 to 158 and has nothing in the 158-255 range. TRUE low key. Pretty brave! In any case, as the artist you get to make the call. Many won't understand this, some will. That's art. Link to comment
digidom 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi Steve, are you sure I have won something in the spiders this year? I have received no notification of it. If you have a URL I would appreciate it. regards, Dominic Link to comment
steve_bingham 0 Posted September 30, 2006 Dominic, My apologies. I really thought I had seen your name. Perhaps I was thinking of my friend, Jeff Alu. In any case, you certainly have won your share of awards! It's really interesting how few photo.net people get to see award winning work - which rarely receive high marks by the way!!! Jeff Alu won a Spider and few know who he is. http://www.photolucida.org/cm_winners.aspx?aID=e60a0fe1-e4ee-4177-a091-f70238466d4e http://photoawards.com/contest/P_dominic_rouse.asp http://www.lacda.com/exhibits/rouse.html Exhibitions & Awards Dominic's work is exhibited regularly in various parts of the world. In March-May 2003 he had his first US solo show at the Carmel Center for Photographic Art and will be exhibiting in Honolulu and Houston in early 2004.
