arnold de beer 0 Posted August 18, 2006 Whoow Sherry - thank you for your fabulous rating! And yes - what a moment. This is one of those photos that just worked out without too much planning. The mere fact that I kept my composure while shooting this photo is already a miracle .... Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted August 18, 2006 Yes... and where are the other pictures following this one of the ceiling as you are falling over from passing out - he'he'! I'm a mother of three and correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like a c-section. Yes, KUDOS to you for keeping your composure. :-) CONGRATS! Link to comment
elaine marie 0 Posted August 18, 2006 How about a black and white version. I am the mother of 7 and that is just a little to colorful for me. Great capture though.Congratulations! I am on call to film a birth any day and will definitly be doing it in Black and white. Elaine Marie Link to comment
lovelife 0 Posted August 18, 2006 WOW! The blood makes me cringe- maybe just taking down the saturation would take that away, but why do that!? This is a moment and image that doesn't need to change for anyone or anything! This is a great capture! and though I cringe, this is incredible! Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted August 19, 2006 Mary... I agree. Although b&w is lovely and powerful, I wouldn't change a thing. This photograph is an exact reflection of what the eye sees when a baby is born. one of the most beautiful experiences one could ever imagine... blood and all! Those vivid colors almost bring me right back into the delivery room! :-) Link to comment
as de beer 0 Posted August 20, 2006 Hi Sherry, Elaine, Mary (and Patrick!) All of you are 'of course', each in your own way, 100% correct. And thank you very much for such wonderful comments on the wonder of giving birth (or 'om lewe te skenk'; no real Eng translation here: to give/bestow/ life). Personally as the grandfather, I'd much rather prefer to gaze and wonder what was going on behind those forlorn eyes when the child in the photo was a few years older: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4806184 (Children, little girl in white/purple dress). But, then I was not allowed near the operating theatre when the baby's father (the photograper) was born. When his sister was born, I passed out flat on my back when the scalpel came into sight, and by the third round time when our second son was born, I have pushed just such a bloody little head back and held it there until the doctor could arrive in the early hours of the night. Today I also wonder what is going on behind our second son's daughter's eyes (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4780957). Link to comment
aramat57 3 Posted January 10, 2007 Wow! I had to look again before I noticed the mother's face! This is a great shot and one of the most compelling birth pictures I have ever seen. Congratulations & best wishes! Tammy Link to comment
maria_di_liegro 0 Posted October 22, 2008 Well, that's real alright! One usually sees photos of babies after they are cleaned up, but seeing this newborn baby like this makes me understand the strength of the actual childbearing process and just how much work it really is. What makes this photo is the mother's face showing happiness over this beautiful baby she has just produced. Well done on showing us the real thing. Regards,Maria Link to comment
