jaquesbre 0 Posted August 16, 2006 At an airfield in northern Tchad, Foreign Legion infantry debark from a still moving aircraft. A real dust storm. No filters were used on this, the camera had been damaged causing the darkened sky. Link to comment
mjcr 0 Posted August 16, 2006 Very atmospheric despite the damage to the image (was the negative/print damaged?). Have you tried repairing it in photoshop? Think the end result would be worth it! Link to comment
jaquesbre 0 Posted August 16, 2006 Hi Matt, I leant the Camera to a friend who was so fascinated with the opening and closing of the camera... that he poked a finger in and the shutter curtains were damaged. All shots I made (until I had it repaired) had a darkened sky ;-) Link to comment
albertzablit 0 Posted August 16, 2006 Make no mistake about it, the damage to the camera adds tremendous atmospheric feeling to an already hectic picture. I would personnally leave it as it is, including the scratches. it's all there binding together man. Only thing that slightly annoys me is the right wing brutally cut like that. i would have left a tiny bit of space to detach it from the border. nonetheless, very powerful timeless capture, that forgives nothing and noone, and that demands to be looked at for what it is. well done. mjcr 0 Posted August 16, 2006 Bit of a pain Jaques, least you got it repaired in the end. I stick by what I said about wondering what it would look like cleaned up, but I agree with Albert that it is a really nice shot! Link to comment
jarek 0 Posted August 17, 2006 Terrific shot! I like the dramatic feeling of something important happening here. The dark sky adds to the atmosphere. Link to comment
paulr 0 Posted August 18, 2006 I like this very much. What year was this photographed? Link to comment
jean-louis 5 Posted August 18, 2006 impresionnant !!! cette atmosphere est lourde de dangers, accentuer par les hommes qui courrent et pourtant, il y a une infini douceur, a cause de l'effect de flou de la tempette de sable, les tons ocres, les nuances roses et les montagne a l'horizon. une image digne d'un grand reporter. as de beer 0 Posted January 3, 2007 Looking back over a year's photos in the new/j. section, this one remains one of my favourites. it is all about news photography, even if it is 'old news'. best, asdeb Link to comment
jh de beer 0 Posted January 3, 2007 Broken camera or not. Makes me think of the old saying: F8 and be there. You did just that. Kudos. Great photo. JH Link to comment
