Big mouth

I used the build in cameraflash with a small selfmade diffusor to soften the harsh light at close distance.

Thanks Omar!

The settings are at the bottom of the photo(in the frame).

I never use a tripod when taking insectmacro's, it takes to much time to set one up.Most insects ( except caterpillars and snails ;0) ) are long gone by the time you have setup the tripod .

Weergaloos..! Fotografeer nooit meer iets anders. Na alle kleurenpracht is dit van een verbijsterende schoonheid.Het hele beeld. Kwam even gluren. 7/7 Ik moet toch wat.. (Dit is de eerste maal dat ik zonder er bij na te denken in het Nederlands heb gereageerd.) Het was echt raak dus. Merci, Peter.

I'm not sure about good looking, but in a photo light this flies can certainly hold my attention!

I read up about this lens, and although it has really good magnification, the minimum focusing distances seemed really small. How did you manage to take this photo without scaring away the fly??

Thanks Lucy.

The trick to getting so close to these flies is easy. Just keep trying to get close enough, sooner or later there's one that does not fly away. Try to get a photo of them in the morning or late afternoon when the temperature is low. They are a lot less activ then. Succes!

>> Who shares my opinion that flies are good looking ?

Not me. This picture (while excellent by itself) only stresses my opinion that they are good runners for the "Ugliest creature" title.

Happy shooting,

Yakim.
