gnashings 5 Posted January 17, 2007 Nice shot - good to see the BoB paint scheme. On a bit of a tangent though... what did they cobble this airplane out of? The spinner is a little pointy.. nine-ish almost... individual exhaust stacks... it looks like a 40 series in there, is it not? The oil cooler is early, the wings are at least painted to look like an 8x303... Well - I could go on - bottom line is, I am just curious, as this bird seems to be a bit of a "collective effort":) Link to comment

k5083 1 Posted January 17, 2007 You are right Peter, this one is a bit cobbed together and I think for some years it had a 4-blade prop as well. No doubt a spare-no-expense millionaire's restoration could be more accurate but this being an RAF project, you take what you get eh! It's not as if our countries' governments put any funding into flying warplanes of this era. Anyway what can be said about this pic except there it was and Alex nailed it! Link to comment
gnashings 5 Posted January 17, 2007 Oh, I am not being critical - I was truly wondering, sensing that it was probably something like that. Come to think of it, its really a spiritual tribute to the Battle of Britain as well, seeing how the repair depots and ground crews were the unsung heros of that critical time! I am sure many a German aircraft met its end at the hands of a pilot flying something that once was more than one airplane! Of course, I am sure any of the Allied pilots would jump at the chance to fly something like this, with the more powerful engine, etc. :) Link to comment
alex_kew 0 Posted January 18, 2007 There was a good article in "Flypast" magazine on P7350, with lots of info on it's shooting down while in the hands of a Polish pilot. I'll see if it mentions anything about cobbling together! Thanks again for all your comments on my pix. Link to comment
gnashings 5 Posted January 18, 2007 If you do find it, I would love to know which issue - I may be able to get my hands on it. And no need for thanks (at least on my end), as your images bring me a great deal of enjoyment - its the least I can do! Link to comment
alex_kew 0 Posted January 19, 2007 It was December 2006 issue, no. 305. Paste this link into browser http://shop.keypublishing.com/acatalog/fp_December_2006.html The 7-page (incl. pix) article is on P7350, and interview with Ludwik Martel - the Polish pilot of 603 Sqn (Hornchurch) flying it when shot down.
