Yellow Lit Leave

SolaresLarrave

Taken with a Kodak ISO 800 film I had hidden away, this leave let me understand where Dale Chihuly got his inspiration for the glass exhibit he mounted in Garfield Conservatory. Shot at f8, at either 1/60 or 1/125, with my Sigma AF zoom in macro function.

I was very surprised when I saw the amount of views and ratings this

shot has gathered. I'd like to know why, as I don't think it's the

best I've made. Not that I'm not happy with the reaction, but I'd

like to know what others saw in it to rate it as they did. I will

appreciate comments and explanations about this photo. Thanks!

I will try to answer, although it is hard to pinpoint why some photos just 'grab' you. I like the simplicity of color and pattern, the overall diagonal sweep, the elegant shape of the leaf. The darkness of the background adds mystery.

I think that the picture could be better if all the leave were on focus. However, i like the composition and the effect of the yellow over black background...

I think the thumbnail of this photo really grabs one's attention. Interesting composition, lines, and strong contrast. However, the viewer's enthusiasm is doused when the larger version of the image is displayed. I agree with the previous poster about the need for more focus control and I'll add that I think you should try with more depth of field.

When you upload a picture and allow it to be public and critiqued, it may or may not be chosen manually to appear in the "rate recent" and "rate yesterday" photos. If one of yours is chosen it will receive a lot more views and therefore ratings, simply because more people are seeing it. So if you compare two of your pictures and they are getting a very different amount of ratings, it COULD be that more people find the one more interesting, or it could just be that one photo.net-person-in-charge found it more interesting. Keep the ones on line that YOU like!

I do appreciate your taking time to reply to my question. Now I have a clearer idea as to what to do the next time I go out with my camera: take my tripod along. See you!
