petermurphy 0 Posted February 23, 2002 I took this photo back in 1997 while camping in Tierra del Fuego National Park. It's one of my favorite photos, so I thought I'd share! Link to comment
idandan 0 Posted February 23, 2002 very original feeling is seen in this picture dreamy and yet earthy like the garden of eden if adam and eve was not exailed . Link to comment
charlesshupe 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Great image. One of those I wish I would have taken. You didn't mention the focal length at time of image, but I noticed you had a zoom. Personally would like to see more of people and less of scenery (although nice). Really like the sun highlighting the guitar. Link to comment
peza 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Be honest - I haven't seen simillar picture yet here. Looks like 1/2-2/3f underexposed, but this is fact which MAKES this pic good, unusual. Link to comment
gauthier 0 Posted February 24, 2002 Touching picture beautiful light. The out of focus foreground is the only thing I don't like. The crop proposed above is too radical, in my opinion; I too find that there is a bit too much scenery, but I'd crop more along these lines, maybe a bit wider. Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,084 Posted February 25, 2002 Effective use of exposure to make a good photo. I agree with Phillipe's suggested crop to eliminate some of the dark foreground, but also his suggestion to go wider than his crop to preserve scale of subject in setting. Nice image! Link to comment
petermurphy 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Thank you all for the great comments and ratings! Interesting comment on the 'under exposure'... I have a personal taste for exposing for the highlights (with slide film) and letting anything darker fall away. Maybe it's just me, but I like that single face lit in the crowd kind of shot... On the cropping, wow! I didn't expect anyone to go to the trouble of cropping it. :) The one I posted is full frame of course... but this is interesting to me. I wonder why I prefer the wider shot? Perhaps it *feels* more like the real scene. Perhaps at heart I'm more a landscape photographer than a portrait photographer... Perhaps the isolation lends itself to a feeling of intimacy? I do think that taking out the foreground blur reduces the dreamlike quality... Its kind of a floating on a cloud effect, I think... Link to comment
arthur sevestre 0 Posted February 28, 2002 Peter, this is very nice! Very peaceful and soft. I most definitely wouldn't cropp the image, because the soft foreground adds to the athmosphere and furthermore, there's nothing disturbing to cropp off. Everything seems to have it's own place. Nice work!! Link to comment
