Very good composition, perfect exposure and DOF,Alec. The play of light & shade in the sky and that lightning make this image a striking one.

Alec,I love to see the roots of heaven.I always enjoy your balance composition. Great shot!! as if you can tell in advance where the thunder will strike.

Spencer, if you take a lot of shots you can get lucky, and the rolling thunder is a great announcer of things to come. ^_^ Sircar, Rivera, thanks for commenting.

Great shot of this lightning. Sky looks ominous too.

I have posted some photos of my India trip. Do have a look when you have time.

Thanks guys, hi Ali. I used a tripod and 6 seconds with a ND filter and F/11 and wait, wait, wait. Then the lightning strike again. The image was then layered with another similar shot from the tripod at 1/40, F8 without the ND filter.

You're right Matthew but the clouds are moving so clarity will not be there if on very slow speed. And the lightning was striking at intervals so there was a chance if positioned in the right direction.

what an awesome bolt! I've always wished I could capture a good flash of lighting. Alec I think it would have a bit better impact with some of the top part cropped off, upper half is a bit empty. and to make the the bottom (like the peer area) a bit brighter. a great catch!

Alec, I have seen many thunder-images, but this is definitely one of the very best. To me, the muted tones and the beauty of the bolt and the dark clouds are the main things. They work so well. Also, the pier leads the viewers eye to the bolt. Excellent capture!

Happy new year!
