kellen1 0 Posted July 22, 2006 I put this pic up less cropped yesterday, maybe it will get better ratings now that it is cut down. You are a tough crowd :) Link to comment
OCULUS New York 0 Posted July 22, 2006 You might try an L-shaped crop from top left, to remove the left-edge flowers, and draw the bottom line proportionally, under the center flower. It will "isolate and simplify" as my instructor Tony Sweet urges. And then too, it becomes a bit of an abstract, as you have to guess what it is by the right outline of the pot. Good luck. tanyatruong 0 Posted July 26, 2006 Is is a vase with real flowers Kellen?. At a first glance, i thought it was crafted from the vase. Beautiful B&W, it really brings out the tones and textures of the flowers. Warm regards, Tanya. Link to comment
kellen1 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Hi, Yes, they are real "flowers" but they are actually more like cacti-"hens and chicks" is their informal name (because you usually have one large plant surrounded by small ones). They are in the succulent family of plants. You can grow them indoors too. I like them because they have an interesting texture and they like it hot and dry. Link to comment
aeaster 0 Posted July 31, 2006 They are sempervivum, Latin for ''always alive''. They are one of the few succulents that can stand really cold weather but can easily rot if their roots stay wet. In Britain they are called ''houseleeks''. These succulents are NOT cacti. So much for the botany lesson. This is a very nice shot; classic and elegant. Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted October 3, 2006 I prefer your much closer crop to this one as it is more magical. I still feel that this is simply a picture of a pot. Also different lighting, or maybe PS work could bring out more contrast betweeen the pot and the background and the succulents. That may give it more 'pop' Link to comment
