the soft lighting creates a very soothing mood. It is certainly a miracle of creation to see just how perfectly formed a baby's tiny fingers are. I have a similar photograph in my portfolio, if you care to look. Is this your baby?

This one is much better composed, although I would have flipped it horizontaly ... to create the ascending diagonal, and to have the baby hand in the right part of the canvas, so that the big thumb would lead the viewer to the main subject. Color tones are nice here, desaturation works better in this case. I also see some kind of blur effect added ... it isn't bad ... although I'm not a big fan of blur added after the shot was taken.
