david_cassidy2 0 Posted June 17, 2006 This remains one of my favorite bird shots of all time ... probably my favorite, period. I like the colour version AND this one equally; it's very difficult to decide which is better. Great work, Tina. Fantastic in black and white. -David Link to comment

cappoldt 0 Posted June 20, 2006 The head is sharp, which is all-important, but clipping the legs at the knees and losing so much of hte flight feathers are areas for improvement, in my opinion. Too, the the bird's right eye is lost in the shadow, a catchlight there might really bring it to life a little more. Check out Arthur Morris' website and books, particularly Birds as Art - it's a great manual for such things to get the ball rolling. Software such as Noise Ninja or NeatImage are also great tools for losing some of the digital moise apparent in the shadow areas and sky. Enjoy! Link to comment
tinaforgetphotography 0 Posted June 20, 2006 Regarding the clipping you see: I was fortunate enough to catch this lovely creature only about a foot from my camera as I fed him. There was no cropping done, and what you see is what I saw through the lens. (His closeness to me is what probably resulted in the darkness on his face, therefore his eye being lost in shadow). The noise you see probably indicates the result I got when I scanned this image. It was originally done on film, and at 800 ISO as a first time effort to attempt to catch the speed of this little fellow. (I have plans to attempt a digital approach to this type of image, when I can find the time). While this image is clearly not fancy, I find it pretty, nonetheless. Regards, Tina Link to comment

anthonyd 0 Posted June 20, 2006 Nice Job! Love the composition. I can't help but wonder what the colour version looks like. Cheers! Link to comment
tinaforgetphotography 0 Posted June 20, 2006 Thank you for your comment. The composition was entirely up to the bird in case! He was about a foot from my camera (no cropping was done). I wonder if you got a chance to see the other image I got during this shoot (it's in my portfolio next to this one). As for the colour image - I did have it posted for some time, but recently replaced it with this one. I'll repost with this comment for you to peruse. I think after seeing the two, I sort of prefer the B&W. It looks more intense to me for some reason. Thanks again for stopping by! Respectfully, Tina Link to comment
anthonyd 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Yes, I did see the other one. I like it, but this is my favorite. I love the wing spanning across the shot and the look on its face! Now the hard part, colour or black and white? They both have a different feel about them and the shot works well both ways, but I think I prefer the....... :) Link to comment
