This really has to be seen larger than the standard viewing mode. It is a very nicely done photo. The general darkness with the bright open door is mysterious, as is the expression on the subject's face. Just a really nice work.

Very nice work Simon. What does the title mean, if you don't mind my asking. I really the the BW, and the sharpness, as well as the hard contrast. Cheers, -Mathew Cook-

Thank you,Thank you,Thank you. I love your lighting technique and the interesting subject. I know you took a lot of time to think of this scenario. At first I wasn't sure about the door being so bright beacause my eyes kept wanting to shift over to the door but the more I looked at this I think it all comes together. I'm new to this site and it seems that the only portraits that are given high ratings are nudes . Great job!!!!

Nice work Simon. But if I were you, I would get in closer to get most of the details of the tired face. your picture is an excellent proof that B&W photography will never die because of its political aspect.

Congratulations;

This photo has some magical calmness in it. It touches deep inside and leaves myself a bit wondered. "What do I see, why I feel like I feel?" :-)Absolutely wonderful piece of photoart.

This image is beyond emotive. I almost want to jump to his thoughts and steal them from him! A fine piece of work.

Simon,

This is fabulous, and the very type of work I absolutely love to see. The juxtaposition between the apparent strength and solidness of the tree behind him and the apparent weakness and hunched overness of this man is breathtaking.

This reminds me of an old ink block etching. The detail in the light. The way the light plays with the draping folds in the fabric of his robe, is outstanding. The side view position is most intriguing, the curvature of his back & neck & the way he leans forward just a little in contrast with the straight, wooden folding chair upon which he sits. This creates a nice accentuation of his form.

I find the slight perspective distortion a little distracting, but not detracting. My brain says "doorways are straight" :) But then, I remind myself, not always. I find it says to me this is an old, building, similarly the "man" is old, he too is not "straight" :) (curvature of back, obviously an elderly man).

The only thing I find a little unconventional is the central placement of the man. Automatically, I want to see more of what's in front of him. But, then given his obvious age, it may have been an artistic choice of placement which implies his life is nearing it's end, so there's not a lot "ahead" of him. I find the glass on the ground behind him intriguing. I started thinking to myself, "Awe.... here's a message, smoking & drinking has NOT shortened his lifespan :)" or has it?

Lovely capture, open for various interpretations. Well done :)

Adorable and very strong and intriguing image, I adore it, the texture, the composition, the lines, the contrast, all are superb. A version with less dof would have great to see also and maybe personally I would cut the small white part on the right. Congratulations!
