Round reading room, British Museum

johnfriar

Developed in Rodinal, scanned on a Polaroid Sprintscan 35+ in RGB mode. Desaturated in Photoshop (this method, I just discovered, gives much better results than scanning directly in greyscale.) Applied unsharp mask only.

I'm interetsed in any feedback at all. There have been over 2 hundred

visits to this image, but only one rating! This leads me to believe

that the image may be boring (although I don't think so, so may be

that says something about me) or that I have so far just found an

unappreciative audiance.

What I like about it is that perhaps more related to the historical

significance. Karl Marx, and many other famous people, studied in

this library. The library was also very influential for the design of

other libraries around the world at that time.

Lovely shot of a magnificent building. You've managed to give some impression of its shape and size without too much wideangle distortion.

I think HP5+ is an excellent all-round b&w film, nice to see it being used well.

John, thanks for commenting my shot of the reading room.

I'd be tempted to say that your picture shows the same room from a more interesting perspective.

Then I think that mine was shot with a 50mm , and yours with a 21mm and this makes impossible a fair comparison.

I read that you desaturated the shot in PS.

You should try to use the channel mixer layer with monochrome output instead. You'll have much more control over the process.
