Guest Guest Posted May 29, 2006 A touch of French or British patriotism would probably bore you, Marvin and you would never imagine that it constituted an artistic statement in itself. So, no points for subject matter. If you feel you must share your love of country maybe you could achieve a more subtle result than this one. The basic photoshoping around is poorly done. The cut-out Eagle looks just like that-cut out, with no attempt to blend the edges into the banal symbols you have used in the background. For me this is an artistic and philosophical flop, hence the 3/3. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 30, 2006 I find this at #12 on Top Rated Photos, so the majority must like it...I do! Link to comment
nathan_ross 0 Posted May 30, 2006 Yeah, I found it in top photos too, but that doesn't mean that it's a good photographic image. And, as a non-American, this kind of patriotism is just way over the top for me. It's the kind of thing that actually gives me and most people I know a really poor impression of the USA. john falkenstine 1 Posted May 30, 2006 Its no more banal than oversaturated flower pics, perhaps if these folks had known that Europeans are now obsessed with vacations and working less than 40 hours a week, they would have made a u-turn at normandy beach. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?topic_id=1481&msg_id=00GklG&photo_id=4507824&photo_sel_index=0 Link to comment
lukas ondrousek aka jozef 0 Posted May 30, 2006 when i went to the US, i have asked a few americans y they think world doesn't like US. they answered that the people in the world are afraid of their democracy and freedom. the truth is though, IT'S BECAUSE O LOT OF AMERICANS HAVE THE SAME OPINIONS AS YOURS!!! Guest Guest Posted May 31, 2006 Patriotic Americans give the rest of the world a poor impression of the US? Marvin, you're right, the comments here are very telling...keep up your blatant, disgusting patriotism...I wish there were more Americans like you! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 31, 2006 Hi Tom, the banality refers to national symbols in general. As i said, if it were British or French I'd find it equally artless. Link to comment
Marvin 4 Posted May 31, 2006 It's interesting to me that when I submitted this exact montage here a couple of years ago it received no reponses at all. No one commented on it as a photo or as a political statement. I hardly think that there's a political statement here, it only presents some common artifacts that are identified with the USA. Usually, my submitted photos generate so little interest that I get no comments so maybe I'll try to create more stuff that seems controversial. Now, however, there's all this back and forth discussion most of it politically motivated. (In fact, it was among my very first attempts at using PS so maybe that's why folks think that the eagle is a problem. Usually, folks have commented on the blown out highlights on the eagle's head.) dwight_jones2 0 Posted May 31, 2006 I think we're talking about three differant topics: Technique could be better. Artisticly, I think it works. Politically, I think a lot of anti-America sentiment is actually anti-Republican sentiment. I expect that we will have fewer Republicans in office after the November elections. Then, perhaps we will be a bit more respectful of the rest of the world and they will feel the same way about us. Of course I could be wrong, but that's the opinion of this FORMER Republican. There are enough of us to make a difforerce in November. Link to comment
musicradio 0 Posted May 31, 2006 Marvin, it's a great photo. I've always heard there are two kinds of people: "Americans and those who wished they were..." (no insult intended) Have a good day. Link to comment
