Green Apple

kengrooms

I shot this on a black sheet placed in a large round tupperware bowl to blacken the bottom of the apple.I placed a tiny reading light just over the apple and drew the curtains to darken the room. Be sure to adjust the white balance in camera or you'll get a blue apple! Finally, I sprayed water onto the apple using a little atomizer. Post-processing: In Photoshop (Elements 3) I further blackened the background by drawing a line around the apple with the Lasso tool>Select>Inverse. Then Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Brightness/Contrast>Brightness -100. Healing Brush to remove spot on apple.Enhance Color/Hue>Yellow Hue +10. Sahrpen using Unsharp Mask @ 170.

This one has an interesting look, Ken. The extreme lighting and the prevalence of black in this photo is a fascinating creative choice. I think the wetness of the apple makes it work especially well. Nice work!

Ken, I'm twice as impressed now that I've read your details, and understand how simply you achieved such a cool effect. Bravo!

Thanks for the information on how you get this. I learnt a lot from you. Can try my hand at still life. An apple, simple & nice.

Beautifully done, Ken, and with such simple tools (except for the D200). I'm not sure I understand the need to the Tupperware bowl but so what, it's a great shot.

Probably the best Green apple image I've seen. Very cool indeed! I have that same lens and it can be real fun to use.
