k5083 1 Posted April 5, 2006 I have no sophistication when it comes to surfing pictures but as a generalist, this strikes me as a great shot and by far the best in your Mavericks gallery. The reasons are: (1) no sky in the picture, you cropped it out to let us imagine how high the spray goes, (2) good choice of aspect ratio, (3) classic composition with the surfer at 1/3 from the right edge and the curl of the wave pointing to him. These all reinforce the power and majesty of the wave. Link to comment

manut 0 Posted July 11, 2008 Absolutely amazing action shot, and colors. Which beach did you take this, I think its Hawaii, and was this in winter. Link to comment
cbabbitt 0 Posted July 11, 2008 The shot was taken from the bow of a boat in the channel at Mavericks near Half Moon Bay in Northern California. Link to comment
maria_di_liegro 0 Posted September 17, 2008 Woah. After seeing "Riding Giants", I totally understand now (at least from a spectator viewpoint) what the magnitude is that they're surfing out there at Mavericks and some of these other spots too. This is an awesome shot of a thunderous wave. Your color gradation within the wave is super. Regards, Maria Link to comment
