After working in my office all day and watching this icicle grow and grow, I decided to photograph it. The image has been cropped and sharpened. It was shot at F/2.8 and exposed for 1/4000 sec.

Chris, welcome to PN! For a first post, you picked a good one. This is very unique and well captured. I think I would have preferred the standard blurring for the background versus the textured one you have here, because I feel it draws the eye away from the amazing ice arm/hand. Otherwise, you handled this well and if you keep finding interesting and unique things like this you will continue to do well!

Thank you very mcuh for the comment, I appreciate it!

The reason that you see the grid (instead of a regular blur) is because the picture was taken through a window screen from my office. The grid is the actual screen. I could try to smoothen it out with PSP, but I'm not sure how to do that yet. I definately agree with you on that though.

I like this ic arm. Very cool. The background grid doesn't bother me much though as I like the textured lines that constitutes to the beauty of this image. Maybe you can lighten the black in PS using dodge tool, or adjust in Levels.
