A really lucky shot i got this afternoon while shooting with a 500mm tamron mirror lens (handheld!).I managed to get off 5 shots and -thankfully- the one where the plane was closest to the moon was also the sharpest.

Highly enlarged-near 100% pixels.

Very sharp for hand held with a 500! Were you leaning against something? I might try working with the sky to make it a darker blue (even if the color you have is reality). Makes me want to get one of those lenses.

Thanks Jim,the comment on darkening the sky is a good one,i tend not to think of these things as i'm allways after the realistic look.I now remember seeing a similar (darker) daylight moon shot that looked much better.
I wasn't leaning against anything.Curious myself i checked and found they were taken at 1/1250th ,so it's probably not surprising they are all 'ok'.This particular one is above average though.Just lucky

Yes these lenses are really quite good if you can live with the obvious mirror lens drawbacks.Bob Atkins has done an excellent review/test-do a search for an article titled (i think ) 'mirror mirror'

I find it very interesting.

About two hours ago my wife saw something similar, and a few moons ago while experimenting shooting a daytime moon, the same thing happened, although not so amazingly close to the moon as yours.

My lucky shot can be found here.

I only saw it happen through the viewfinder, and I must say that there's a very limited timeframe to shoot this.

I like your shot very much and think I know what you felt :-)

Cheers,

Pieter

oh boy! I am lusting after such a lens. But you have to be there to get the shot, too. Excellent color and sharpness, especially for hand held.

Is this the article: Bob I have it bookmarked for future required reading. Thanks for the tip.
