this is far too deliberatley sentimetal and far too severely cropped. i also feel that the harsh lighting destroys the intended mood (although i may be wrong about what was intended).

I was wondering who that young lady was, and thinking that Peter Paul Rubens would have definitely used her as his model. You are a lucky woman to have a daughter so classically beautiful. I don't feel sentimentality in this shot, but rather sense that two people are very absorbed in thinking their own thoughts at the same time.

Carina, I don't know if it was intentional, but I thought of the picture as a "before and after".

Your beautiful daughter, with tight curls, perfect face and "heart" exposed in sparkly dress, possibly displaying optimism.

The other lady, curls unfurled, darkness under the eyes, heart covered in dark fabric. Maybe showing the aspect of a woman affected by hard life?

when i make photos i do it in a very intuitive and playful way, i never really know what result i want , ... when i did these i was aware that there was going to be a contrast between my little girl and me :) that was the --idea-- showing women in different stages of life, i like your interpretation, for me it has some truth

best regards,

Carina

I read the same thing in the picture, Rick. I saw a woman reflecting on her past, how things go "differently" than planned sometimes. The child has shiny dress, glossed lips, cherub cheeks and in focus - the woman (who I now know to be the artist) is a bit out of focus (not too much to be distracting, though, nice subtilty).

I like the use of the B/W, too. I looked at your portfolio and you exhibit a nice use of color, so to see this in B/W, it further makes me feel like this is reflecting.

Top right is all black.. interesting line.

(I don't mean to imply that I would title this 'reflecting', by the way; let the viewer read into it what they have in them to see. Lots of different contrasts beg to be drawn here.)

Very nice job.
