Before writing a contribution to this thread, please consider our reason for having this forum. We have this forum because future visitors might be interested in learning more about the pictures. They browsed the gallery, found a few striking images and want to know things like why is it a good picture, why does it work? Or, indeed, why doesn't it work, or how could it be improved?

So, when contributing to this thread, please keep the above in mind. Address the strengths, the shortcomings of the image. It's not good enough to like it, you should spend some time trying to put into words why that is the case. Equally so if you don't like it, or if you can't quite make up your mind.

Let's make sure this forum is a wonderful learning resource for future photographers!

The composition is excellent but the B&W effect does not look natural. The digital B&W is a kind of artifical.

Excellent BW photo, composition and tones are perfect.

Excellent photo with a well mastered composition. The person running towards could not have been anywhere else then where he is without breaking the harmony of the setup. Furthermore the soft features of the pile of earth (?) to the left in the photo breaks the rigidness of the overall composition of strait lines of the bridge. Well done and well seen.

Great composition indeed. I agree that the tones are quite flat and there should be a way to give this some boost, even via digital conversion if that's the way it was generated. Another thing bothers me: because the uploaded jpeg is quite small I can'treally see what's going on at the back of the bridge - left side. I *could* look asif something was cloned off there, or it could simply be the fog, I can't tell. Anyway, surely a pretty nice architectural picture. Well done.

As Patrick noticed, I hope we can all give constructive contributions to Monteiro and produce enough discussion instead of just congratulating the author.

 

I like the picture overall. The tone, the exposure and the hazy atmosphere. I wouldn't boost the contrast. I prefer it flater since it reflects the haze better.

 

I think the composition could be better. There is an evident weight on the right and bottom parts of the image but, of course, there was little that the photographer could do. Anyway I had to point it out.

 

I believe that the composition could be improved with the towers positioned more to the left; less centered in the frame (that could result in a better balance versus the right-bottom dark areas).

 

Another thing that bothers me is the person being in front of the bridge's pillar. The runner would hold our attention better if it were against the water only.

 

So, to improve the composition, walking a few steps to the left would fix both the tower's and the runner's position, improving the composition overall.

 

I like the tone/exposure though. Wouldn't change that :)

 

So finally, congratulations. Very nice picture.

Given all the hard edges in the background, I would have tried to fire off as many shots as possible. He looks awfully uncomfortable with that thing stuck in the right side of his neck.

 

Tones seem fine to me.
