bens 0 Posted February 23, 2006 hi jim, nice use of the sign, certainly fits the house, suggest cropping up to the bottom of the pole holding it. Link to comment
aeaster 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Tore down already? Too bad; it was probably far better built than any of those vinyl-clad monster shit-shacks build in the past two decades. (Pardon my language, but I was in the building trades for many years, and before that I was a sailor.) Good use of sepia toning Jim. Far too often on PN I see it way overdone. Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Good of you to notice my post, Biplab. I do appreciate it.....Jim Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Hi Ben, been a while since we've spoken. I agree, that is a good cropping. I shot this in 1970, as I recall. Now, using mostly zoom lenses, I would probably crop somewhat differently. Thank you for your consideration.....Jim Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 23, 2006 Jim, a nice "dead end", really fits the title... I think that Ben's cropping suggestion is worth trying.I like the sepia here. Pnina Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Hello Andre, Looking at your portrait, I would have bet that you had been a skilled tradesman. I'm a retired sheetmetal worker myself. I could not agree more about the shody trash that is built in the last few decades. To much profit and not enough labor......You are not talking to some mealy mouth goody-goody when talking to me, 32 years working with men that did a real days work, took care of that. Very glad to get a visit from you anytime.....Jim Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Why hi there Pnina, heck I should have waited a while to print the show print(camera club, monthly contest). May reprint it anyway. As this appears on my screen, it is not as dark as I had it, before I posted it. So I guess I'll need to lower the brightness some the last thing before I post it......Have you had such a situation?.....Jim Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 24, 2006 Jim, I don't know if that was what Ben S. talked about, but I think some cropping will bring closer the house and sign, what do you think? Link to comment
mike_gal 0 Posted February 24, 2006 Hello Jim, great photo. I like the combination of humour and sadness in this image. (Nice to hear about your background, too). All the best, Mike Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted February 24, 2006 Hi Pnina, I think your cropping just about what Ben S suggested, and it's the same as I would have done....I'll try to repost a cropped and darker, perhaps contrastier version a little later......Wish I could go back and shoot some more of this place......Thanks.....Jim Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 3, 2006 The sign saying, "Dead End" says it all. To think that in this country we toss out the useful, when there are bilions of citizens of the earth that would have thought this a fine abode........... Good capture, althogh I have a little problem with the tones. Still, worthy photograph. Take care. Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted August 3, 2006 Hi Dave, I can hardly take issue with what you said. For one thing, if I were to reprint this, it would be somewhat different tonally......I appreciate you taking your time to consider this image.......Jim Link to comment
